This is required by the CSA (Celiac Sprue Association) sponsor. 

 

The expo will run from 10 am to 4 pm.  We will need volunteers from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm in shifts of at least 2 hours.  Listed below are some of the volunteer positions.  If you are interested in one or more of these positions, state your choices in your email and I will note this next to your name.  As more planning takes place, we will have a better idea of where volunteers are needed.    

 

There is a $9.00 parking fee from the Del Mar Fairgrounds which we all have to pay.  We encourage you to carpool.  Benefits to becoming a volunteer is that you will get a volunteer T-shirt, free admission for yourself and one other person as well as access to all the vendors and all the gluten free samples you can eat.   This year, as last year, the Expo is a fundraiser for the Warren Center for Celiac Disease Research, and 100% of the people helping with this Expo are volunteering their time.  

 

Volunteers jobs to date: 

 

  • Help vendors unload (will start at 7:30 am) or load (later shift ~3pm or so)
  • Vendor/Venue set-up (will start at 7:30 am)
  • Clean-up (Shift starting ~ 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm)
  • Concierge Volunteers – work at vendor tables distributing products
  • General admissions
  • Volunteer check in and distributing volunteer shirts

  • Vendor Committee *
  • Signage 
  • Co-Coordinators for Publicity (Need 2 people by August, mentor from prior year will assist)*
  • Safety coordination
  • Survey Collectors for Warren Center

Volunteer Job:  Publicity
Need:  2 People
What:  Help coordinate the publicity for the San Diego Gluten Free Expo.  
When:  Slow start up in August and September.  Most activity in October up until the week of the expo.  We have some media contacts from the 2011 expo.
Publicity activities include:
  • Writing press releases about the event
  • Calling on newspapers, tv, radio programs to coordinate speakers for interviews
  • Work with UCSD on publicity campaign
  • Coordinating different speakers to be interviewed
  • Answer questions about the expo
  • Answer questions about Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance


Volunteer Job:  Vendor Committee
What:  Assist the Vendor Coordinators with contacting vendors as needed
When:  May through end of October
Vendor committee activities include:
  • Contact vendors on the list by phone and email and give them information about the expo
  • Solicit their interest in participating, advertising or donating
  • Confirm participation.  Give instructions on agreements and fees
  • Follow up with vendors assigned to make sure they get their paperwork in
  • Communicate specific needs or questions from vendors
  • Be the primary contact for that vendor
  • Keep records of vendors responses and share with Vendor Coordinator
